OpenHere is operated by CAG Productions, LLC. It's a community-driven web app where people can request the businesses they'd like to see open in their neighborhood, and flag categories they feel are oversaturated. We try to collect as little as possible and to be straightforward about what we do collect.
What we collect
- Submissions you make — the business name or category you submit, whether it's a “want” or a “pass,” and the zip code you submit it for. These are public.
- Your approximate location — if you grant browser geolocation permission we use it to look up your zip code; if you don't, we may fall back to your IP's approximate postal code (provided by Cloudflare). Either way we store the zip, not precise coordinates.
- Your IP address — used for rate limiting and abuse prevention. IPs are kept in a short-lived rate-limit table; they are not associated with submissions in any public record.
- Browser storage — we use
localStorageto remember the items you've already upvoted in your browser so you don't accidentally vote twice. Nothing inlocalStorageidentifies you.
What we don't collect
- No accounts, names, emails, or phone numbers (unless you opt in to a feature that requires one in the future).
- No precise GPS coordinates retained server-side.
- No advertising or behavioral tracking cookies.
Third-party services
- Cloudflare — hosts the site, terminates TLS, provides bot protection (Turnstile), and supplies IP-derived geolocation. Cloudflare may log requests as part of its normal CDN operation.
- Google Maps Platform — used server-side to reverse-geocode coordinates to zip codes and to count businesses in your area. Your raw coordinates may transit Google's infrastructure when you allow browser geolocation.
Public data
Submissions you make (the brand or category name and the zip code) are public — they appear on shareable pages and may be aggregated into trending lists. Don't submit anything you wouldn't be comfortable having attached to a zip code permanently.
Content moderation
We automatically filter submissions that contain profanity, target protected groups of people, or name public figures — they'll be rejected at submission time. We may also remove individual entries that violate the spirit of the app.
